Introduction
As the founding product designer at Mayhem Studios, I was tasked with establishing a cohesive design team and developing robust design processes. Our ambitious goal was to create the largest mobile game ever made in India. My role involved building a design team from the ground up, advocating for and hiring six talented designers, and setting up processes that would ensure high-quality, efficient, and scalable design solutions.
Process
DESIGN AUDIT & FIGMA MIGRATION
Conducted a comprehensive UI audit of existing designs to identify inconsistencies and areas for improvement.
Migrated from Photoshop to Figma, facilitating real-time collaboration, streamlined asset management, and a single source of truth for all design files.
Enabled designers, product managers, and engineers to work directly together, improving communication and efficiency.
DEVELOPING UGW DESIGN SYSTEM
Created a standardised design system that ensured consistency across all design elements, including colors, fonts, and UI components.
Implemented global components for quick and easy updates, enhancing flexibility and reducing the time required for design changes.
Facilitated faster onboarding for new designers and front-end developers by providing a clear, consistent design language.
TEAM BUILDING & MENTORSHIP
Hired and mentored a team of six designers, including experts in UI/UX, sound, and motion design.
Fostered a culture of cross-functional collaboration, particularly between design, engineering, and product management teams.
Established clear workflows and processes, ensuring that all team members could contribute effectively and efficiently.
